Gaby Sahhar is a French-British-Palestinian artist based between London and Paris. Their multidisciplinary practice explores representations of queerness in the public sphere, examining how these depictions influence queer consciousness and communities. Sahhar creates dialogue on themes such as migration, value systems, and assimilation within city cultures. Using speculative storytelling, they illustrate the psychological and physical frameworks that challenge borders and identity. Their work delves into the tension between identity loss, resistance and the social fabric of architecture, shedding light on these complex and intersecting themes through research and visual archives.
Sahhar was diagnosed at birth with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, a rare hereditary connective tissue disorder causing chronic pain and dislocations. This condition shape their creative process, posing daily challenges with movement and perception. Their work reflects these struggles, exploring spatial constraints and the daily unseen structures shaping public and private life.
